Keith A. Russell, Sr.

Chief Keith A. Russell, Sr., age 53, of Greencastle, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 31, 2024, at his home. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 31, 1970, he was the son of John M. Russell and the late Lynn Jones Russell.

Chief Russell was a graduate of Damascus High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Gulf War. Chief Russell graduated from the Beaver County Municipal County Police Training Academy. Keith served as a police officer for the last 23 years, most recently as Chief of Police for his beloved Greencastle Community in the Greencastle Police Department. Keith was a member of the Mt Pisquah Lodge No. 443, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Brothers Keepers Grand Chapter, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, flying his drone, and shooting; however he cherished spending time with his family. Keith was especially proud of his children and his police team.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Katie Spaeth Russell, whom he married on February 24, 2002; four children, Hannah, Gracie, Keith, Jr. and Zachary Russell all of Greencastle, PA; two siblings, John and Timothy (wife Valerie), all of Pittsburgh, PA; aunts, Patricia Morningstar (husband Cletus) of Youngstown, OH and Rebecca Swift (husband Garry) of Deep Creek, MD; his friend and kidney donor, Bryan Chappell; and numerous other extended family. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Russell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11 AM at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Rd. East, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Alan Kelemereit and Pastor Casey Hurst will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7 from 12 – 2 PM and 6 - 9 PM at the above church and address. Interment with military honors will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to assist with Keith’s children’s college tuition, payable to Katie and mailed to the Greencastle Police Department, 60 N Washington St, Greencastle, PA 17225.
