Dortha L. Chamberlin

Dortha L. Chamberlin, age 90,  a resident of Providence Place of Chambersburg and formerly of Starr Ave. Chambersburg and Greencastle died on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in Providence Place.

Born November 3, 1926 in Cushing, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late L.H. Lane and Lillie May (Coonrod) Lane. She married Frank S. Chamberlin on November 6, 1999. He died on December 21, 2014.

Dortha retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1993 after which she worked part time at Furniture Market in Waynesboro and Schier’s Furniture in Chambersburg. While employed at Letterkenny, she worked in Saudi Arabia for the Dept. of Defense during Desert Shield Gulf War campaign for four and one half months.

Dortha was a member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church where she served as elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. Over the years, she served in several churches in Oregon and Pennsylvania, as a youth leader, Women’s Group Moderator, Sewing Circle Treasurer, Church Board Member and secretary for the Dallas, Oregon Ministerial Association.

She graduated with a BA degree from Shippensburg University.

Surviving family are two sons, Mark G. Truax of Frackville, PA, Troy A. Truax of Waynesboro, PA, three step-daughters, Patricia Chamberlin Hoke of Virginia, Bonnie Chamberlin Bumbaugh of Chambersburg, Beverly Chamberlin Davis Parsons of Greencastle, one step-son, Jack L. Chamberlin of Texas, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, ten step- grandchildren and thirty-nine step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband James Truax in 1954, former second husband George Truax in 2012, two brothers Elmer Lane and Lloyd Lane and one sister Geraldine (Lane) Hall.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday July 12 at 11:00 AM at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church 57 West Baltimore St. Greencastle with Rev. Ron Martin-Minnich officiating. Burial will be in the Antietam (Price’s) Cemetery in Waynesboro at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com .
