William D. Lauffer, age 88 of 39 Williamson Ave., Greencastle, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.
Born October 23, 1921 in Portage, PA, he was the son of the late Norman and Emma (Roberts) Lauffer.
He and his wife of 65 years, Lillian G. (Ritchey) Lauffer were married January 3, 1944 in Portage, PA.
Mr. Lauffer was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater of Operations. He retired from Eagle Construction of Greencastle.
He was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and in his earlier years he enjoyed woodworking and hunting.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are six children, Sharon Gray of Walkersville, MD, Linda Cardine of Detroit, MI, William Lauffer Jr. of Red Bank, NJ, Dianne Powell of Greencastle, PA, David Lauffer of Colorado Springs, CO and Timothy Lauffer of Greencastle, PA; three daughter in laws and three son in laws; brother, Roy Lauffer of Mount Holly Springs, PA; nineteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 12th at 2:00 P.M. in the Chambersburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 230 Siloam Rd., Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Dennis Chisholm officiating. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 P.M. at the church. Private burial will be held in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
