William D. Heckman
William D. Heckman, age 81, of 5103 Lemar Rd., Mercersburg, PA. died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at his home.
Born August 27, 1925 in Franklin County, PA. he was the son of the late I. Elam and Ruth (Straley) Heckman.
He was the husband of the late Clara E. (Fetterhoff) Heckman, whom he married July 29, 1950. She died on July 20, 1996.
Mr. Heckman was employed by the Letterkenny Army Depot of Chambersburg, PA. retiring in 1985. In his earlier years he was employed by the former Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown, MD.
He was a member of the Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church of Greencastle since 1950 and attended regularly. He was a 1943 graduate of the Lemasters High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He enjoyed wood working and gardening.
Surviving family are, one son, Terry L. (husband of Julie Dalby) Heckman of Mercersburg, PA.; Three grandchildren, Kristopher, Katelyn, and Bryant Heckman all of Mercersburg, PA.; one brother, Robert H. Heckman of Mercersburg, PA.; and companion of seven years, Mary Cook of Mercersburg, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church, 3661 Williamson Rd., Greencastle, PA. with Pastor Eric Beck officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA. and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Ebenezer United Brethren Church, 3661 Williamson Rd., Greencastle, PA. 17225.
