William E. “Bill” Fox
William E. “Bill” Fox, age 86 of Greencastle, PA died at 11:05 PM Friday, June 12, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in declining health the last six months.
Born September 26, 1928 in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Galen C. and Orpha G. (Statler) Fox. He married Isabelle J. (Baer) Fox on December 27, 1960.
Bill and Bernhard G. Charles were co- founders of Fox & Associates Land Surveyors and Engineers in 1966 based in Hagerstown. He was a licensed surveyor in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. In his earlier years he worked 15 years for Baker and Wibberly Surveyors and he also worked for the Potomac Edison Co.
Bill was a member for over 47 years of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren where he had served on the church board and was past chairman, moderator, Sunday School teacher and was on the building committee.
He did repairs in his home for 20 – 30 years on scientific instruments used in surveying and engineering operations.
He was a former member of the Greencastle American Legion and V.F.W. and for over 30 years he was a member of the Antietam Exchange Club of Hagerstown. Bill was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended the Baltimore Community College He enjoyed camping, going to the beach and Chincoteague VA, spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.
Surviving family in addition to his wife Isabelle are three sons, Robin L. Fox and wife Carol of Scottsdale, AZ, Ron L. Fox and wife Karen of Greencastle and Troy S. Fox of Greencastle, six grandchildren, Sadie, Abby, Brian, Jake, Tracey, Jeremiah, seven great-grandchildren, a daughter in-law Barb Fox of Arvada, CO and former wife Joan Padian.
Bill was preceded in death by a son Randee Fox and four brothers, Charles Fox, Marvin Fox, Wayne Fox, Jay Fox and a sister Lucille Altland,
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 22 at 10:30 AM at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren 36 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Sunday evening June 21 at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to SpiriTust Lutheran Home Care And Hospice 2700 Luther Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the Greencastle Church of the Brethren 36 S.
