William E. Diehl, age 83 a resident of the Tower at Falling Spring, 200 N. Main St. Apt. 607 Chambersburg and formerly of 125 Williamson Ave. Greencastle died early Monday morning May 19, 2008 in his home.

Born July 12, 1924 in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late D. Norman and Annie G. (Goetz) Diehl.
He, along with his late brother owned and operated the former Norman Diehl''s Sons Welding and Repair of Greencastle until he retired in 1985.

Mr. Diehl was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle. He was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a member of the Mercersburg Sportsman Association.

He had an avid interest in antiques and collected wood carvings of Frank Feathers.
Mr. Diehl was a 1942 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the Battle Of The Bulge. He enjoyed playing cards and gardening.

He and his wife, Mary Catherine (Bonner) Diehl were married June 29, 1946 in Hagerstown. She died on March 13, 2002.

Surviving family are:

One daughter, Marcia Sue Diehl, Takoma, Park, Md.

Companion, Ruth Bishop, Greencastle, Pa.

Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by sisters Ethel Brown, Catherine Besecker, Helen Mowen, Alma Barkdoll, Edna Knepper, Dorothy Mellinger, Martha Diehl and brothers George Diehl and Norman J. Diehl.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 22 at 11:00 A.M. from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
