William E. Dennis, age 90, of Williamson, PA, died at 10:25 P.M. on Monday, June 29, 2009 at his home.
Born, June 23, 1919 in Blooming Prairie, MN he was the son of the late Ernest and Eva (Robinson) Dennis.
He and his wife, Mildred (Maloy) Dennis were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1942. She died on August 18, 2004.
Mr. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years. During World War II he was stationed in Plymouth, England. After the war, he was aboard the USS Kearsarge and USS Tidewater. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1958 at the Norfolk, VA Naval Air Station. He then retired after 16 years of service from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms. He also worked in the John A. Dennis Hardware Store for over 35 years.
Mr. Dennis was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and Williamson Ruritan Club both for over 35 years.
Surviving family are two sons, Harold E. Dennis and John A. Dennis both Williamson, PA. One brother, James E. Dennis of Clearwater, FL and Sister-In-Law, Dorothy Dennis of Safety Harbor, FL. He was preceded in death by one Brother, Robert Dennis and two Sisters, Jeanne Multer and Alice Dennis.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. from the Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 S. Second St., Chambersburg with Father Patrick Pierce officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. There will be no viewing. The family requests the omission of flowers and memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Williamson Ruritan, c/o Melissa Keefer, Treasurer, 7623 Valley View Lane, Greencastle, PA 17225. Arrangements were handled by the Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.
