Wayne A. Winters

December 4, 1943 — December 23, 2020

Wayne A. Winters, age 77 of Greencastle, PA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in his home with his family by his side.

Born December 4, 1943 in Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Glen R. Winters and Thelma (Gordon) Winters.  He had been in deteriorating health for over five years. Mr. Winters was a 1961 graduate of James Buchanan High School, after which he attended Hagerstown Junior College and Bridgewater College.

He was employed at Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro, PA, starting as an apprentice and then as a machinist and technical writer, retiring after 37 ½ years. Then for five years after retirement, he was a delivery driver for Applied Industrial Technologies.

Mr. Winters was a member of the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hancock, MD, where he served as organist for over 50 years and financial secretary for 35 years, as well as other leadership positions. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and Frontiersmen Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting and cooking, usually ending up doing more cooking than hunting. Shepherd’s Spring Christian Retreat was a beneficiary of his culinary skills where he offered his volunteer services for many summers.  He loved to search for antiques, delighting upon finding a bargain.

Surviving family are his wife Nancy Jane “Janie” (Baer) Winters, whom he married on June 8, 1975; two daughters, Melissa Rand (husband John) of Warfordsburg, PA, Holly McNamee (husband Chad) of Greencastle, PA; three grandchildren, Ryan Wishard, Brooke Wishard, Ethan McNamee; one step-granddaughter  Kristen Boggs; one brother  Homer Winters (wife Shirley) of Mercersburg, PA; two sisters, Faye Lower of Mont Alto, PA, Glenda Stenger of Greencastle and a  number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister Betty Winters.

At the convenience of the family, a Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren C/O Rev. Harry E.
