Wayne Eugene Stenger, age 85 of Baumgardner Court Greencastle, PA died at 5:40 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 in his home.
Born April 7, 1930 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Chester A. “Chet” and Hilda V. (Stine) Stenger. He married his wife Shirley Y. (Murphy) Stenger on March 11, 1955.
Wayne retired from Mack Truck of Hagerstown where he worked in quality control. Following his retirement, he worked at the Greencastle Greens Golf Course.
He was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ of Greencastle, life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. # 1, life member of the Greencastle Greens Golf Club and a member of the Eagles Club of Waynesboro.
He was a 1948 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean War.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, crossword puzzles, playing pinochle and helping with Little League baseball in his younger years.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are three sons, Mike Stenger and wife Misty of Greencastle, Mark Stenger and wife Tamara of Falling Waters, WV, Monte Stenger and wife Holly of Charleston, SC, one daughter Marcy Barrett and husband Dave of Hagerstown, seven grandchildren, one brother Dean Stenger and wife Virginia of Hagerstown and one sister Doris Coffman and husband Charles of California.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Max Stenger.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 31 at 11:30 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Dr. Carol Kipe officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the building fund of Grace United Church of Christ 128 East Baltimore St. P.O. Box 448 Greencastle, PA 17225.
