Wayne R. "Sonny" Murray Jr., age 66 of Hades Church Rd. (P.O. Box 14) Shady Grove, PA died unexpectedly early Sunday morning August 12, 2012 in his home.

Born June 9, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Wayne R. Sr. and Helen A. (Barnhart) Murray. He married Ferne L. (Myers) Murray on June 20, 1970 in Hagerstown.

He began his trade at Landis Tool Co. where he worked for 10 years and was employed at Grove Worldwide (now Manitowoc Crane) in Shady Grove for 31 years having just retired on May 31, 2012.

He had been an active member of the Fairview Avenue Brethren In Christ Church of Waynesboro where he taught the Berean Class. He also was a member of the Stone Mountain Hunting Camp, Shady Grove Improvement Association and the Greencastle -Antrim Running Club. He served as a graduate assistant with the Dale Carnegie Course and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Wayne also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends, hunting and being in the outdoors.

In his younger years he was involved in 4-H, member of the Keystone Band and worked at the former Greenpoint Drive-In. He was a 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and earned an associate degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are two daughters A''Lynn (husband Michael) Hartle, Boiling Springs, PA, Briette (husband Richard) Baxter, Waynesboro, three grandchildren Cassidy & Wesley Hartle and Pierce Baxter, one sister Lorraine "Rene" (husband Linn) Christman, Chambersburg, one brother David (wife Bonnie) Murray, Chambersburg, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew Donald D. Beaver Jr. in 1987.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 17 at 10:30 A.M. from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Pastors David Rawley and Lee Nunemaker officiating. Burial will be in the Antietam (Prices) Cemetery in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5- 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House 3727 14th Street NE, Washington DC 20017.
