Wayne L. Hartman

Wayne LeRoy Hartman, age 78, of Greencastle, PA died at 5:40 AM Monday, September 24, 2018 in the Chambersburg Hospital following a brief illness.

Born December 13, 1939 in Marion, PA, he was the son of the late Guy E. and Jesse L. (McClure) Hartman. He married his wife Patricia R. “Patty” (Pittman) Hartman on February 28, 1959 in Hagerstown. She died on March 29, 2005.

Wayne was a Prudential Insurance agent and worked as a district manager for the company, having worked for 34 years retiring in 1997. He was a 1958 graduate of Greencastle High School. Wayne was a member of the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church of Greencastle since 1971, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle, life member of the Franklin Fire Co. of Chambersburg, life member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association where he had served as treasurer and financial director. He founded and ran the Greencastle Sportsman Association Horseshoe League from 1986 till the present.

He was also a life member and Fourth Degree Sir Knight, Knights of Columbus  Council #1426 of Chambersburg, life member of the Greencastle VFW Post #6319, life member of Chambersburg Vietnam Veterans, life member of the Greencastle American Legion Post #373, member of the Mercersburg American Legion Post #517, member of the Mercersburg Moose Lodge #1790 and member of the St. Thomas American Legion Post #612

Surviving family are three daughters, Karla S. Daley and husband Keith of Greencastle, PA, Kelly D. Mays and husband Mike of San Jacinto, CA and Katrina L.H. Dempsey and husband Bill of Leesburg, FL; one son, Randy L. Hartman and fiancée Raffaela of Brazil; nine grandchildren, Jason, Randi, Melody, Thomas, Amanda, Brooke, Cameron, Pia and Miguel; twelve great-grandchildren; companion Connie Vanderau of Greencastle; two sisters, Isabell Bradley of Mercersburg and Lois Wenger of Marion, PA.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul G. Hartman, Glen E. Hartman and his beloved pet Stretch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday September 28 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 385 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle with Father Kyle Sahd officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Central Pennsylvania , 101 Erford Road, Suite 201 Camp Hill, PA 17110.
