Wayd E. Dunkle
Wayd E. Dunkle of Greencastle, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday March 5, 2018, entering into the eternal rest of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born August 10, 1929 in Roaring Spring, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. Dunkle and Grace Acker (Brumbaugh) Dunkle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John W. Dunkle, and one great grandson, Augustine Ross Titus. He was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley (Ross) Dunkle, whom he married May 21, 1949 in Winchester, Virginia. He is also survived by three sons, Robert W. Dunkle (wife Saundra) of Greencastle, Rev. Jeffrey L. Dunkle (wife Ruth) of Manheim PA, Craig L. Dunkle (wife Heidi) of Greencastle; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ross, Justin, Timothy, David, Rachel (Gehman), Matthew, and Faith (Titus); and seven great grandchildren, Ian, Felicity and Wesley Dunkle, Zackery and Zoey Gehman, Brooklynn Dunkle, and Adelaide Titus.
He was a 1948 graduate of Roaring Spring (PA) High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He retired in 1991 from Mack Trucks, Hagerstown MD after nearly 30 years of service as a skilled tradesman.
He was a member of UAW Local 171, Mack Golden Bulldogs of Hagerstown, AARP, the Greencastle Senior Citizens Center and the Hagerstown Stamp Club.
He served as Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 90, State Line PA. During his Boy Scouting career, he received the Scouters Award and the Order of Merit. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Mason-Dixon Council in 1963, became a Brotherhood O-A member and later served as a neighborhood commissioner.
He enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a long-time member of Grace Brethren Church, Hagerstown MD and in later years attended Grace Bible Church, Greencastle PA.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 9 at 2:00 PM at Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle PA, with Rev. Herman Fisler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Beautiful View Cemetery near State Line PA.
