Walter L. Kershner, age 98 and a resident of the Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg, PA and formerly of State Line, PA died at 9:40 A.M. Monday March 2, 2015 in the nursing center.
He was a lifetime resident of Antrim Township.

Born October 15, 1916 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late William and Margie (Barnhart) Kershner. He married Edna (Myers) Kershner, a resident of Penn Hall Nursing Center,  on March 10, 1945.
Walter was a 1934 graduate of Greencastle High School. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Force from 1943- 1945 in the 95th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force. He took part in 35 bombing missions over Germany where he was a tail gunner (clay pigeon) in a B-17.
Walter worked at Landis Tool Co. of Waynesboro, owned and operated a milk route (from farm to creamery) and was a mason and carpenter with the former Lanehart Co. and  also was a small self-employed contractor.
His community service included Antrim Township School Board for 18 years and Antrim Twp. Sewer and Water Authority Board. Walter was a member of the Trinity United Church Of Christ of State Line, charter member of the State Line Ruritan Club, member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a  member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association
His interests included baseball, softball, golfing and hunting.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are one son Dennis L. Kershner and wife Suzanne of Woodstock, MD, two grandchildren, Julie Canfield and husband Brad and Stephen Kershner and wife Ann, two great-grandchildren Jake and Kyle Canfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Kershner.

A private funeral service will be held at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle at the convenience of the family with Chaplain Brenda Doyle officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Penn Hall Benevolent Care Fund 1425 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
