Virginia L. (Bitner) Duffey, age 94 of Greencastle, PA died at 1:25 PM Monday, January 18, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born January 2, 1922 in St, Thomas Twp. Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Della (Kriner) Bitner. She was the wife of Harold R. Duffey whom she married on July 21, 1945.
Virginia worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown during World War II and was proud to be one of the Rosie the Riveters. She retired from Corning Glass Works of Greencastle after 24 years employment.
She enjoyed bowling, roller skating and working in her flower gardens. Virginia loved her family and enjoyed taking the grandchildren on rides at the amusement parks.
Surviving family in addition to her husband of 70 years are one son Harold E. Duffey and wife Marlene of Greencastle, one daughter Nancy Brunner of Greencastle, three grandsons, Harold E. “Gene” Duffey II and wife Connie of Mechanicsburg, PA, Chad Brunner and wife Katrina of McConnellsburg, PA, Richard Brunner of Greencastle, four great-grandchildren, Weston and Kinsey Brunner of McConnellsburg, PA, Alex Schroer of Florida, Samantha Schroer of Mercersburg, PA and one brother Harry Robert Bitner and wife Doris of Chambersburg, PA. and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Catherine Divelbiss and a brother Garnet Bitner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday January 22 at 11:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Rescue Hose Co. # 1 842 South Washington St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
