Violet M. Hege
Violet M. (Martin) Hege, age 85 of Angle Rd. Chambersburg, PA died at 8:40 PM Tuesday, October 14 at Menno Haven of Chambersburg where she had been for a short term stay.
Born August 10, 1929 in Maugansville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd K. and Mary Katherine (Kretzer) Martin and the step-daughter of the late N. Virginia (Horst) Martin. She married Adam H. Hege on August 9, 1952 in Waynesboro. He died on August 27, 1999.
Violet was a farmer’s wife and she worked at the former Rocky Ridge Farm Market of State Line and then worked last at the Brown’s Mill Poultry Farm near Chambersburg.
She was a member of the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church near Chambersburg where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the sewing circle, floral and hospitality committees. Violet had been involved with the Gideons International and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and being a grandmother;
Surviving family are three daughters, Mary Ellen and husband Wayne Sommerfeld of Marion, PA, Judy and husband Larry Stayman of Chambersburg, Connie and husband Mark Poppenwimer of England, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, four brothers, Emory Martin, Jim M. Martin, Stephen Martin, Gideon Martin, all of Waynesboro, PA, three sisters Lois Sensening of Lancaster, PA, Norma Jean Bollinger of Paw Paw, WV and Genevieve Martin of Baltimore, MD.
In addition to her parents, husband and step-mother, she was preceded in death by two sisters Almeda Barnhart, Anna Belle Young, three brothers, Clifford Martin, Jason Martin and Marvin Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 18 at 10:30 AM from the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church 24 Kauffman Rd. East Chambersburg with Rev. Ky R. Searcy officiating. Burial will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International P.O.
