Violet M. (Christophel) Bingaman, age 84, a resident of Quincy Retirement Home for the past four months and formerly of 3434 Scar Hill Rd., Greencastle, PA, died at 3:45 A.M. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.
Born, June 1, 1924 in Antrim Twp., Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Irvin I. and Anna Mary (Stumbaugh) Christophel.
She and her husband, Wade W. Bingaman, were married May 9, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD.
She was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle, PA where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years, was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and a life member of the Women''s Missionary Fellowship. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Mrs. Bingaman was as a Homemaker and a Self-Employed Seamstress. She attended the Greencastle High School.
Surviving family in addition to her husband are, Two daughters, Betty L. Cordell of State Line, PA and Shari A. Myers of Boonsboro, MD. One son, Gary E. Bingaman of Greencastle, PA. One brother, Robert Christophel and one sister Barbara Gochenauer both of Greencastle, PA. Three grandchildren, Rick Cordell of Greencastle, PA, Diana Ardinger of Martinsburg, WV, and Hannah Myers of Boonsboro, MD. Three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cordell of Springfield, IL, Danielle Grosh Cordell of Greencastle, PA and Raven Ardinger of Martinsburg, WV.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Irvin, Tom, Fred and Wayde Christophel, and three infant brothers.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 17 at 11 A.M. from the Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, PA with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
