Thomas Brendle Brumbaugh
Thomas Brendle Brumbaugh died on December 18, 2011 of complications from pneumonia.
Born May 23, 1921 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Alexander Neill and Elisabeth Brendle Brumbaugh of Greencastle, PA.
He retired as Professor of Fine Arts from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in 1985, after a distinguished teaching career of some forty years which included earlier appointments at Ohio State, Hood College and Emory University. A 1939 graduate of Greencastle High School, he was also a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the University of Iowa and finally, the Ohio State University from which he received the doctorate in Art History in 1955. During World War II, he served in the armed forces from 1943- 1946 in combat with the 63rd Division, 7th Army, in Germany.
Surviving are his sister, Alice Martin Brumbaugh of Chambersburg, PA, and his companion, Olen Bryant of New Deal, TN. A memorial reunion for family and friends is planned for a later date. Interment will be in the family plot, Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle, PA. The Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle is assisting with local arrangements.
