Thelma L. Rowland, age 98 a resident of The Brethren Home Community of New Oxford, PA. since 1985 and formerly of Greencastle died at 9:45 P.M. Wednesday May 18, 2011 in the Brethren Home.
Born October 17, 1912 in Waynesboro, PA., she was the daughter of the late Rev. John E. and Ella (Hawbaker) Rowland.
Thelma was a graduate of Morrisons Cove High School in Martinsburg, PA. and a 1933 graduate of Juniata College. She received her Library Of Science certification from Millersville State Teachers College in 1936.
She was a teacher and school librarian for 34 years in the Greencastle-Antrim School District. Thelma was a life member of the National, Pennsylvania and Franklin County Retired Teacher Associations.
She was a member of the Greencastle Church of The Brethren. Thelma also was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters and a former member of the Greencastle-Antrim Senior Women''s Club.
Surviving family are a niece Mary Ellen Funk of Hanover, PA., one nephew C. Rowland Funk, Milpitas, CA., two grand nieces and one grand nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 24 at 2:00 P.M. from the Greencastle Church Of The Brethren 36 South Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday.
