Tania Sarapuka Kelley
On August 3, 2013, surrounded by family, Tania Kelley, 87, passed away in her Mercersburg, PA home.
Her husband, Charles J. Kelley Sr., predeceased her in 1997, just shy of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Tania was born on January 9, 1926, in the Ukraine. At the age of 16, her strength, pride, and strong faith were tested when she was forcibly taken from her home to Germany. There, she eventually met Charles, a WWII American soldier. After marrying, they moved to the U.S. where they raised their family in MD and PA. Tania became an American citizen and was very proud to have been given the opportunities living in the United States. She loved taking care of her family and had many interests, including gardening, cooking, and sewing. She was a faithful member of St. Luke the Evangelist Mission Church in Mercersburg.
Tania was mother to Maryann Parish (Bill); Charlie Kelley (Jennifer); Michael Kelley (Mary Pat); Mark Kelley; and Joe Kelley (Denise). She is also survived by former daughter-in-law Nancy Thorpe Kelley; seven grandchildren: Eric Bryan (Katharine); Jeremy, Kristen, Brennan, Patrick, Tyler, and Connar Kelley; and two great-grandchildren: Kate and Betts Bryan. She will be remembered by her very dear, life-long friend, Maria Carpenter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church 385 South Ridge Ave. Greencastle with Rev. Joseph L. Stahura as celebrant.
