Sylvia Mae Weller McNew, age 89 of Greencastle, PA died at 4:50 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 in her home. She had been in declining health the last two years.
Born July 4, 1926 in Mercersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Bessie Mae (Gordon) Dorty. Her first husband James Orville Weller died March 9, 1981 and her second husband Wilbur H. McNew died October 25, 1993.
Sylvia was a homemaker and also worked for over 30 years at the former Stanley Co. of Chambersburg. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Brethren In Christ Church near Mercersburg. She attended the Greencastle Senior Center and enjoyed her flowers and doing crafts.
Surviving family are five daughters, Bonita Pflieger and husband Gus of Palm Springs, CA, Janet Clopper and husband Edward of Greencastle, Barbara Jarrett of Richmond Furnace, PA, Marcia Beaver and husband Rocky of Greencastle, Diane Jaime and husband Bobby of Greencastle; three sons, Marvin Weller and wife Kathy of Greencastle, Jeff Weller of Greencastle, Timothy Weller and wife Laurie of Clear Spring, MD, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Verna Phenicie of Greencastle, Geraldine Zimmerman of Pittsburgh, PA, Bernice Bonebrake of Greencastle, Carol Mellott and Hazel Nelson both of Mercersburg, two brothers, Raymond Dorty of Mechanicsburg, PA and John Dorty of Mercersburg.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, infant son, James O. Weller Jr., one son Clarence Weller, two brothers, Floyd Dorty, Wayne Dorty and a sister Pauline Berkstresser.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 17 at 2:00 PM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor David Grove officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
