Shirley S. (Snyder) Bittner, age 85 of Waynesboro, PA died at 3:30 PM Thursday, November 20, 2014 in the Quincy Retirement Village Nursing Center following a nine month illness.
Born December 14, 1928 in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Percy and M. Clare (Hill) Snyder. She married Frank A. Bittner on March 17, 1951 in Greencastle.
Shirley was a registered nurse having worked at the Waynesboro Hospital and had served as a nursing supervisor. She was a 1946 graduate of Greencastle High School and then graduated from the Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA.
Shirley was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro. She also participated in community activities in Waynesboro including the Bloodmobile. She was an avid card player and was a member of two local card clubs. Shirley was a great homemaker and cook, enjoyed working in her flower gardens, raising roses and feeding and watching birds.
Surviving family in addition to her husband are two daughters Leslie H. McEntire and husband Randall of Round Hill, VA, Alison B. Stine and husband Scott of Waynesboro, two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 25 at 10:30 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church 43 S. Church St. Waynesboro, PA 17268.
