Sharon A. Nelson

Sharon A. Nelson age 77 of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Spirit Trust Village. Born April 21, 1944, in Elkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Francis Lamoreaux and Victoria Louisa May Heit Lamoreaux Pinkerton.

Mrs. Nelson or “Grandma” as she was affectionately known by everyone,  worked at the former Freeman Shoe Company in Waynesboro and later as a cashier at the former Greencastle Texaco, the former High’s and Rutter’s stores. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and gambling on instant scratchers, however her passion was spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband of 48 years, Harold F. Nelson, Jr., whom she married on March 23, 1973; four sons, Jeff Smith (Cheryl) of Greencastle, PA, Mike Nelson (Deb) of Greencastle, PA, Steve Nelson
(Sherrie) of Greencastle, PA, and Paul Nelson (Angie) of Chambersburg, PA; six grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Travis Smith (Casie), Michaela Nelson, Sarah Miranda, Amber Nelson, and Cory Nelson (Katie); eight great-grandchildren;  three siblings, Shirley Hayes of Huntsville, AL, Sandy Hoover of Elkton, MD, and William Lamoreaux of Hartley, DE; and two cherished nieces, Sharon Smith Otzelberger, and Kim Coscarelli. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ross Pinkerton, and siblings, Ruby Smith and Loren Lamoreaux.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 11 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Chaplain Karen Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 6-8 PM, where Grandma will share some of her luck with you and one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Rd., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
