Sarah Catharine Martin, age 99 a resident of Menno Haven of Chambersburg died at 1:45 P.M. Wednesday February 16, 2011 in the nursing center.

Born May 7, 1911 in Upton, Franklin County, PA., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Annie Mae (Gsell) Etter.

She was a homemaker and had been a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia.
Catharine was the oldest charter member of the Mercersburg Mennonite Church.
Her husband, A. Paul Martin Sr. died March 26, 1989

Surviving family are four daughters Lois Elser Lenz, Columbia, MD., Betty Jane (wife of Arthur) Wise, Sarasota, FL., Naomi C. (wife of Harold) Horst, New Oxford, PA., Mary E. Kennedy, Greencastle, one son A. Paul (husband of Dorothy) Martin Jr., Mercersburg, PA., thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, two son-in-laws Paul O. Kennedy and Edward Lenz Sr.


A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church Cemetery near Greencastle with Rev. Allen Eshleman officiating. A memorial service will be held at the Menno Haven Chapel on Wednesday February 23 at 10:30 A.M. with Chaplain Vernon Isner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Menno Haven Benevolent Care Fund 2075 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA. 17201. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M.
