Sarah Irene "Rena" Heckman, age 89 of 1315 Cider Press Rd. Chambersburg died at 11:25 A.M. Saturday December 17, 2011 in Menno Haven Chambersburg where she had been a resident for the past 3 � years.

Born August 11, 1922 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Sadie B. (Miller) Hawbaker. She married D. Leroy "Roy" Heckman on April 25, 1943.

Rena had retired from Farmers Produce of Chambersburg in 1987. She was a member of the Ridge Church Of The Brethren in Shippensburg.
She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Tuesday night Ladies League at Nellie Fox Bowl and a member of the Thursday afternoon Ladies League at Lincoln Lanes. She enjoyed traveling with the bowling team to bowling tournaments all over the country.

Rena also enjoyed gardening, baking, going to yard sales, hosting family and neighborhood picnics and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving family in addition to her husband of 68 years are three sons Ronald L. (wife Willetta) Heckman, El Paso, TX, Donald R. (wife Anna M.) Heckman, Fayetteville, John D. (wife Deborah A.) Heckman, Spring Mount, PA, three daughters, Dorothy K. Overcash, Chambersburg, Darlene C. (husband Jeffrey) Coldsmith, Chambersburg, Kathy D. (husband Gregory) Goetz, Fayetteville, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers Marvin Hawbaker, Seth Hawbaker, Ray Hawbaker, two sisters Verda Burkholder, Julia Mowen, infant twin sister Irene Sarah Hawbaker and a grandson Bret Overcash.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 22 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Chaplain Vernon Isner officiating. Burial will be in the Upton Church Of The Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter 2325 Country Rd. Chambersburg, PA. 17202.
