Sarah Elizabeth Hartle

Sarah Elizabeth (Barnhart) Hartle, age 93 of 146 Sunflower Dr. Hagerstown, MD. died at 2:10 A.M. Sunday May 1, 2011 in the Meritus Medical Center Hagerstown.

Born October 30, 1917 in Tilghmanton, MD., she was the daughter of the late Nevin S. and Edna Pearl (Kemp) Barnhart.

In her earlier years she worked at the former Victor Hosiery of Hagerstown and last was employed for over 20 years for the Washington County Board Of Education in the cafeteria of the E. Russell Hicks Middle School. She was a long time member of the St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hagerstown where she had been active in the Sunday School and altar guild. Mrs. Hartle was a member of the Lappans Homemakers Club and was a 1935 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She and her husband Kenneth M. Hartle were married January 1, 1937. He died in 1976.

Surviving family are one son Gary G. Hartle and wife Doris of Greencastle, PA., two grandchildren, Michael Hartle (wife Lynn) and Christine Hartle, and two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Wesley Hartle.

Funeral services will be held on Monday May 9 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of the St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church 141 South Potomac St. Hagerstown with Rev. Edward Heim officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery Hagerstown. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church 141 South Potomac St. Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
