Samuel Noah Christophel Sr., age 84 of Jack Rd. Chambersburg, PA died unexpectedly on Monday, August 12, 2013 in his home.
Born November 28, 1928 in Hagerstown, MD he was the son of the late Walter B. and Lizzie E. (Martin) Christophel. His stepmother who helped raise him was the late Leah E. Martin.
He married Jane M. (Hykes) Christophel on December 15, 1951 in Greencastle.
He was employed for 25 years at Wayne Feed of Chambersburg and also at Wheelock Feed in Marion for 25 years. He last worked at the former Cumberland Valley Stove & Pellet in Marion.
Sam was member of the West Side Brethren In Christ Church of Chambersburg and a member of the Chambersburg Fitness Center. He enjoyed bowling at Nellie Fox in the Senior League.
He was a 1948 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of 61 years are two daughters Ann M. Reeder and husband Bill, Alisa K. Miller and husband Don, all of Chambersburg, three sons Samuel Christophel Jr. and wife Betty of Bradenton, FL, Jay Christophel and wife Deb of Chambersburg, Dwayne R. Christophel and wife Nicolee of Three Springs, PA, fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and step-mother, he was preceded in death by two sisters Dorothy Hykes and Lydia Flora.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 16 at 10:00 A.M. from the West Side Brethren In Christ Church 2665 Lincoln Way West Chambersburg with Rev. James Sollenberger officiating. Burial will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman, PA. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle on Thursday evening from 6- 8 PM and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
