Sam Kolodny Robertson, Jr., 61 of Greencastle, PA (formally of Bridgewater, VA) died on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at home surrounded by his family after a four-year illness.
Mr. Robertson was born in Martinsville, VA, the first son of the late Sam Kolodny and Mary Jane Minter Robertson. He was of the Baptist faith, having helped to build the Central Baptist Church in Axton, VA.
He graduated from Madison College in Harrisonburg, VA and later received the Master of Business Administration from the College of Business of James Madison University.
He married Jennifer Turner in October, 1974 at the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, VA. Surviving with his wife and mother-in-law, Doreen Turner of Chambersburg, PA, are two sisters Barbara Spitzer of Callands, VA, Susan McCarthy and her husband David of Mt. Airy, NC; three brothers, Gordon Wesley, Edwin Dewey and his wife Carolyn Davis, Richard Brian and his wife Judy Inman all of Axton, VA. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved and loyal Jack Russell "Tobie" and a large and loving extended family.
Sam is also survived by a special "band of brothers"; the brothers of Tau Sigma Chi Fraternity and their family members. He served his fraternity as President and IFC Representative. In addition, he was a member of Gamma Gamma (predecessor of the Order of Omega) and Beta Gamma Sigma, honorary societies.
He retired from Orgill, Inc. in Inwood, WV as Human Resources Manager in June 2011. He had previously been employed by True Value Distribution Centers in Hagerstown, MD and Allentown, PA; Quebecor Printing in Martinsburg, VW; Victor Tube Corporation, Sierra Manufacturing and Bland Land all in Harrisonburg, VA, Ethan Allen, Inc. in Bridgewater, VA and Alliance Manufacturing in Shenandoah, VA.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 8 at 2:00 P.M. at the Axton Baptist Church in Axton, VA. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday June 1 from 2 - 4 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA. Interment will be private.
The family encourages memorial contributions to the Axton Baptist Church 173 Mountain Valley Rd. Axton, VA 24054 or to the organization of your choice in lieu of flowers.
