S.A. Evon Barvinchack

May 15, 1942 — February 26, 2021

Dr. S. A. Evon Barvinchack, 78, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home on Friday, February 26, 2021, with his loving wife Georgia by his side.

He was born on May 15, 1942, in Johnson City, New York, the son of Dr. John Barvinchack and Clara Mae Petrie Barvinchack.

Preceding him in death are his son Brett Barvinchack, and stepmother June Stouffer Barvinchack.

Surviving family in addition to his wife Georgia Dunleavy Barvinchack, are his brother Roman Barvinchack, son Michael Barvinchack, daughter Kimberly Barvinchack Briggs, stepdaughter Geri L. Moats, stepdaughter Gwendol L. Wrights, stepson Geoffrey L. King, their respective spouses, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Prior to retirement from his Chiropractic profession in October 2016, he was very active in numerous community and professional organizations.

An alumnus of Greencastle Antrim High School and Mercersburg Academy, he was named an outstanding 1965 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. He was a NADEP certified disability examiner and an independent medical examiner.

His articles on forensics, chiropractic orthopedics and trauma management have been published in the Journal of the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedist and various other health and chiropractic publications.  In addition to his publications, he lectured throughout the United States and Hawaii.  He received two gubernatorial appointments to serve on the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

He loved his community and could often be found helping at various local events with the Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, Old Home Week celebration and many other civic groups.  In 1996, he was recipient of the James P. Oliver outstanding citizenship award for the Greencastle Antrim community.

Dr. Barvinchack enjoyed his time spent with the Shriners organization often transporting children to the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia.  He really enjoyed his involvement with The Sayara Unit of Ali Ghan Shriners bringing smiles and laughter to all as he drove his “little red car” in parades in the tri-state area. Dr. Barvinchack was commissioned into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels in recognition of an individual’s noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to community, state, and nation.

When not in his office or serving the community, he could be found enjoying the great outdoors at his mountain retreat near Great Cacapon, West Virginia, with Georgia and their dog Mudd.
