S. Harvey Kuhns, age 92, a resident of Village Square, Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Hades Church Rd., Greencastle, PA died at 11:43 P.M. Saturday, February 21, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born, September 24, 1916 in Denbigh, VA he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Martha (Horst) Kuhns.
He was a member of the Mount Olive Mennonite Church, Maugansville, MD where he assisted with Sunday School activities. He was a farmer from 1943 to 1972 and after retiring he worked at the former Leiters Implements in Greencastle for 15 years.
He and his wife, Edna H. (Martin) Kuhns where married October 12, 1940 in Maugansville, MD. She died on December 7, 2006.
Surviving family are: Son, Samuel H. Kuhns, of Greencastle, PA. Daughter, Verda K. Martin, of Lewiston, ME. Brother, Harold Kuhns, of Harrisonburg, VA. Sister, Cora Crunkleton, of Chambersburg, PA. Ten Grandchildren, Thirty Seven Great-Grandchildren, and One Great-Great-Grandson.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by Two Sisters, Naomi Martin and Mary Hummer, Three Brothers, Ira Kuhns, Paul Kuhns and Adin Kuhns, and One Great-Granddaughter, Melinda Wenger.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. from the Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg with the Mount Olive Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-9 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
