Ruth Evelyn Smith, age 81 a resident of the Quincy Retirement Home and formerly of Waynesboro and South Carlisle St. Greencastle died at 8:08 P.M Saturday March 8, 2008 in the nursing home.

Born January 8, 1927 in York, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lydia (Klinedinst) Smit.h
Ruth and her sisters were orphaned at an early age and were placed in the Children''s Aid Society Of Pennsylvania. Frances Leiter was an active member of the organization and took Ruth to raise in Greencastle.

She was employed as a nurses aide for over 25 years in the maternity and nursery ward of the Chambersburg Hospital. Miss Smith was a member of the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren where she was a member of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class and served in the church nursery for many years. She helped in sewing lap robes that were used in local nursing homes and she also helped in making baby blankets. She loved children and enjoyed visiting with her family members.

Surviving family are a sister, Martha Watkins of Toccoa, Georgia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Grace K. Smith, Mary E. Smith and an infant sister Edna Smith

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 13 at 11:00 A.M. from the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren 117 S. Church St. Waynesboro with Rev. C. Albert Guyer officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the nursery program of the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren 117 S. Church St. Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
