Ruth Anderson Miller, age 84, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD. Born April 17, 1939, at the residence at Anderson’s Mill, Mercersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Chester Allen and Mabel Adaline Defenderfer Anderson.
Mrs. Miller was a 1957 graduate of James Buchanan High School. After high school, she worked briefly at the Mercersburg Inn. She then worked at Letterkenny Army Depot for 28 years, retiring in 1993. Ruth was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle and Farm Women Group 6. She enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, spending time with family, hosting family gatherings, and cooking for family and friends. Ruth was also interested in researching family genealogy and actively traced the Anderson family genealogy lineage for more than 70 years.
Surviving are two children: Jacquelyn A. Sipes (husband Steven) of Mercersburg, PA and Gregory I. Miller (wife Michelle) of Clear Spring, MD; six grandchildren: Kacie Hensley; Aaron and Isaac Sipes; and Wyatt, Garrett, and Abigail Summers; two great-grandchildren: Everleigh Rogers and Raelynn Grace Summers; and six siblings: Carrie “Lu” Blair (husband John) of Greencastle, PA, Rollie Anderson of Greencastle, PA, Ray Anderson of Chambersburg, PA, Dorothy Rebok of Chambersburg, PA, Elener “Nell” Stoner of Mercersburg, PA, and Harry Anderson of Mercersburg, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Miller, in 1985; a grandson, Johnathan W. Miller; and four siblings: John and Sam Anderson, Pauline Harmon, and Catherine Stouffer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225 with Pastor David Rawley officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment in the Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA, will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Heritage Hills and Doey’s House for the compassionate care they gave to their Mom.
