Ruth Ann (Showalter) Martin, age 72, of   Greencastle, PA died at 6:48 AM, Tuesday July 12, 2016 in her home. She had been in declining health the past several months.

Born July 26, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Laban and Ethel (Risser) Showalter. She married Pastor G. Joseph “Joe” Martin on June 26, 1965.

Ruth Ann had worked at the former Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown, Rocky Ridge Farm Market in State Line, Gibney Florist of Hagerstown and in the café of the Hagerstown Livestock Auction. She also was a homemaker and did house cleaning for people and did cleaning at Salem Ridge Church.

Ruth Ann was a member of the Salem Ridge Community Church of Greencastle and the Cedar Street Mennonite Church in Chambersburg. She had been a teacher in the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, sewing and watching birds. She was a 1961 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

Surviving family in addition to her husband are two sons, Eric G.  Martin with girlfriend Lisa LaBar of Greencastle, Tony L. Martin and wife Heather of Greencastle, one grandson Austin Martin of Greencastle, two brothers, Harold Showalter and wife Esther of Nova, PA, “ Sonny” Lewis Showalter and wife Rachel of Waynesboro, PA and one sister Barbara Frey and husband Nelson of Newville, PA.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday July 17 at 4:00 PM at the Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle with Pastors Brian Emery and Larry Lehman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. A private graveside service at the Salem Ridge Community Church Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Nelson Witmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225 or to Cedar Street Mennonite Church 430 Cedar St. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.zimmermanfh.com. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
