Ruth “Betty” K. Gayman
Ruth “Betty” K. (Keck) Gayman, age 89 of Clubhouse Dr. Fayetteville, PA died at 2:59 AM Monday, February 1, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 12, 1926 in White Haven, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Minnig) Keck. Betty married Harold C. Gayman on March 10, 1951 and who passed away on April 1, 2011 after celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Betty was a 1944 graduate of the White Haven High School and a 1948 graduate of Penn State University. After college she worked at the Hamilton Watch Co. in Lancaster, PA where she met Harold. After they were married Betty taught kindergarten and helped in operating the family dairy farm, Gaymere Farms.
She was a member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church.
Betty was a member of the Franklin County Society of Farm Women Group #4 and past county President. She served as a 4- H leader for many years. Betty was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters Old Home Week organization. She along with her husband enjoyed square dancing, golfing and spending the winter months in Sebring, FL. Betty enjoyed cooking, reading, embroidery and gardening, but her most enjoyable times were spent playing card games with her grandchildren.
Surviving family are two sons, Mark Gayman and wife Sally of Waynesboro, Grant Gayman and wife Carolyn of Waynesboro, four granddaughters Abby Gayman Hoover and husband Mike, Joy Gayman, Maggie Gayman, Sarah Gayman, two step-grandsons, Ford Peterson and Matthew Peterson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hess and Marian Stephens.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 11:30 AM at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 West Baltimore St. Greencastle with Rev. Doug Beltzner officiating. There will be no viewing but the family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:00 – 11:30 AM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Shanks Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 West Baltimore St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
