Ruth E. (Shank) Diller, age 90, formerly of Greencastle, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning February 20, 2018 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg.
Born August 31, 1927 in Marion, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie E. and Anna (Wingert) Shank. She married her husband Aden K. Diller on September 8, 1945 in the Marion Mennonite Church.
Ruth was a lifelong homemaker and also worked at the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg. She and her husband owned and operated for numerous years Diller’s Potato Chips, formerly of Greencastle. Ruth was a member of the Cedar Street Mennonite Church of Chambersburg where she taught Sunday School and helped with the Girls Club. She also assisted her husband in his pastoral ministry at the Cedar Street Church.
She and her husband were part of the founders of the Cove Valley Camp near Mercersburg. Ruth did mission work for Northern Lights Ministries and volunteered while living at Menno Haven. She attended school at Eastern Mennonite School in Harrisonburg, VA and her hobbies included gardening and flowers.
Surviving family in addition to her husband of over 72 years are two daughters, Sharon Baer and husband Darrell of Chambersburg, Esther Martin and husband Lester of Shippensburg, two sons, Eugene Diller and wife Fern of Greencastle, James Diller and wife Judy of State Line, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one brother Raymond Shank and wife Gladys of Harrisonburg, VA and one sister-in-law Beulah Shank of Marion, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, five brothers, Marlin Shank, Paul Shank, Glenn Shank, John Shank and Charles Shank.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 24 at 3:00 PM at the Marion Mennonite Church 4365 Molly Pitcher Hwy. South Chambersburg, PA with Chaplains Lori Witmer and Steve Barnett officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be no public viewing but there will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Marion Mennonite Church.
A memorial service will be held at the Menno Haven Chapel on Sunday February 25 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Menno Haven Benevolent Care Fund 2011 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
