Ruth Arlene (Burner) Barkman, age 64 of 163 Addison Ave. Greencastle, Pa. died at 10:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in her home.

Born March 5, 1945 in Luray, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Roy Capataine and Helen Arlene (Litten) Burner of Massanutton Heights.

She graduated from Luray High School in 1963 and from James Madison University in 1967 in the teaching field. She received her Master of Arts degree in 1970 from the Texas Woman''s University in Denton Texas.

On August 4, 1965 she married Clifford A. Barkman who preceded her in death on April 14, 2004

She taught school for a number of years in the west and retired as operations manager from Sears Roebuck And Co. after 20 years service. She was currently employed by the Johns Hopkins Research Center in Hagerstown. Ruth had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed plants & gardening. She was a Master Gardener and was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by sons Marshall Barkman, Clifford Barkman II, Ernest Barkman all of Greencastle, Pa., two sisters Mary Louise Turner, Luray, Va., Dorothy McPhilamy of Coca Beach, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 8 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. Burial will be in the Leaksville Church Cemetery near Luray. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Tuesday.
