Roy B. Hawbaker, age 96 and a resident of Menno Haven of Chambersburg and formerly of Buchanan Trail West Upton, PA. died at 9:10 P.M. Friday, October 7, 2011 in the nursing center.
Born December 13, 1914 in Welsh Run, PA., he was the son of the late Amos and Elizabeth (Brechbill) Hawbaker. Roy was a farmer and also was a minister and evangelist having served the Upton Church Of The Brethren for over 48 years.
He was a member of the Upton Church Of The Brethren. He and his first wife, Janet B. (Auman) Hawbaker were married on September 3, 1941. She died on October 8, 1987.
His second wife, Ermadell J. (Lehman) Nell Hawbaker died on November 30, 2009.
Surviving family are five daughters LaVonne (wife of Lewis) Shank, New Oxford, PA., Donna (wife of George) Martin, Greencastle, Diane Hawbaker, Wanda (wife of Roger) Negley, Roxane Witmer, all of Mercersburg, one son, Duane (husband of Joanna) Hawbaker, Mercersburg, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, four step-sons, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren
Roy was also preceded in death by: four brothers Ira Hawbaker, Samuel Hawbaker, David Hawbaker, Aden Hawbaker, five sisters Mary Meyers, Edith Hawbaker, Susan Grove, Edna Myers, Elva Myers and one step-son.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 12 at 10:30 A.M. from the Upton Church Of The Brethren 8490 Warm Spring Rd. Upton, PA. with ministers Dennis Sollenberger and Charles Martin officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S.
