Rodney E. Statler, 65, of Greencastle, PA passed away surrounded by his family on December 16, 2020, from complications of the Coronavirus. Born October 24, 1955, in Chambersburg, PA he was the son of the late Paul Richard “Pappy Dick” Statler Sr. and Elizabeth (Little) Statler.
Rodney was a member of Mt. Zion Church in Cearfoss, MD. His love for hunting began at a young age in Williamson, PA and continued throughout his life. After 30 years of service, Rodney retired in 2017 from the Greencastle Antrim School District where he made many life-long friends. The salt and the sea were in his blood and he loved it even more when he shared time in Ocean City, MD with his family. Anyone who knew Rodney knew of his servant heart. He was known for always having a smile on his face and the question on his lips “what can I do for you?” His selflessness will continue on through his legacy. The goal isn’t to live forever, but to create something that will last forever.
Rodney will be missed everyday by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Susan (Miller) Statler, daughter, Rodina (Joseph) Miller, and son, Duffey Statler. In addition he is survived by his siblings, Paul Richard (Kathy) Statler Jr., Randy (Alice) Statler, Donna (Leon) Witter, Sandy (Ivan) Hissong, sister-in-law, Ruby Witmer, sister-in-law, Mary Miller, and many other beloved family and friends.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to MMPW EMS and the wonderful nurses of the Chambersburg Hospital CCU nursing staff. A special thank you to Dr. Anna Kent, CCU RN Stephanie, Sean, and Jenn whose compassion and tenderness was beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 11:30 am at the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Rd. E., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Murray B. Stevens will officiate. The service will be streamed live on Facebook as well as saved on Facebook for viewing at one’s own convenience. The family will receive friends from 9:30am to 11:30am. The family requests that everyone in attendance wear a mask and observe proper social distancing. Casual dress and camo are encouraged, as that is what Rodney would have wanted. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask you take a moment to hug your loved ones a little tighter, do a good deed for someone or walk in the woods for a moment, an hour or a day. Time waits for no one. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.
