Rodney R. Hawbaker, age 44 of 1809 Warm Spring Rd. Chambersburg died Wednesday morning January 19, 2011 from injuries received in a silo accident on the family farm.
Born August 3, 1966 in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of E. Harmon and Joyce M. (Meyers) Hawbaker of Chambersburg.
He was a life long dairy farmer. He and his wife Karen L. (Long) Hawbaker were married October 29, 1988 in Lancaster.
Rodney was a member of the Antrim Brethren In Christ church near Chambersburg where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Penna. Farm Bureau and had been a young farmer rancher through the bureau. He was a 1984 graduate of James Buchanan High School.
Rodney enjoyed his involvement in The Bolivia Dairy Project through Love and Action International of Irvin, CA, where he was in charge of setting up and building a dairy barn in Bolivia for a local orphanage. He and his family had traveled to Bolivia four times.
He served as a delegate to the Land of Lakes Dairy Cooperative and was a member of the local Gideon''s International. He also served as a volunteer for various activities at Shalom Christian School near Chambersburg and volunteered with South Hamilton Bible Release Time by driving a bus and being a listener.
Surviving family in addition to his wife and parents are one son, Owen R. Hawbaker, a student at Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK, a daughter Kirsten A. Hawbaker, at home, a brother, Michael and wife Michele Hawbaker, Shade Gap, two sisters, Melanie and husband Robert Lee, Belgrade, Montana, Wanda and husband Doug Works, Mechanicsburg, PA., and several nieces, nephews and aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by a sister Denise Hawbaker.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. from the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, 24 East Kauffman Rd., Chambersburg with Rev. Ky R. Searcy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday evening from 5- 9 P.M.
