Rodger Glenn Shuman
After a valiant struggle against Parkinson’s Disease and cancer, Rodger Glenn Shuman, age 66 of Mercersburg, PA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at his home.
Born July 30, 1949 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Glenn “Ben” and Evelyn (Sipes) Shuman and his step-mother the late Isabelle Shuman.
Recently retired, he was a board member of Mt. Calvary Tabernacle of Williamson, PA and was vice –president of the TV media ministry called Experience Life Today. Over the years he was employed by The First National Bank of Greencastle, Mercersburg Academy, Gateway Ministries, was a self-employed contractor and worked for the Washington County Maryland Housing Authority.
Mission trips, both short term and long term were his passion. Along with his wife, Carolyn, they gladly served the Lord at their local congregation and around the world. His entire family served 4 years in Jamaica followed by short term ministries in Bolivia, Paraguay, Cuba, Mexico, Belize, Nigeria and the Philippines.
Rodger enjoyed the outdoor life and was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to kayak. His life was characterized by service and he most enjoyed helping others learn to enjoy these same outdoor activities. In addition, he assisted many people with his wide skill set in the building and maintenance trades both here and abroad.
Rodger was a 1967 graduate of James Buchanan High School after which he earned a business degree at Hagerstown Business College. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army Reserve from 1968-1974 and from 1975-1980.
Surviving family are his wife Carolyn M. (Heckman) Shuman whom he married on May 24, 1970, two daughters, Lisa Fahnestock and husband Ken, Angela Myers and husband Chad, all of Chambersburg, he loved and adored his 3 grandchildren Lanah, Cort and Galen Myers, all of Chambersburg. Also surviving are a step-sister Nancy Christman and husband Ronald of Chambersburg, step-brother Rodney Shuman and wife Melody of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 25 at 10:00 AM from the Mt. Calvary Tabernacle 5415 Warmspring Rd. Williamson, PA with Pastor Reuben Egolf and his brother-in-law Pastor Leonard W. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery St. Thomas, PA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.
