Roberta W. “Bertie” Lanehart
Roberta W. “Bertie” Lanehart, age 81 of Greencastle, PA died at 2:45 AM Saturday September 19, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital. She had been in declining health the past two months.
She was born August 22, 1934 in Waynesboro, PA, and was the daughter of the late William and Evelyn B. (Calimer) Wilhide Woodring.
She was a homemaker and had worked over 10 years as a clerk at Smith’s Drug Store in Waynesboro and last worked as a bartender for 20 years at the Greencastle V.F.W. Roberta was a 1952 graduate of the Waynesboro High School. She was a member of the Greencastle V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and was active with her high school class reunion committee.
She married her first husband Carl “Monk” Mentzer in 1953. He died in 1956. She married her second husband Jack A. Lanehart on February 28, 1957. He died on July 17, 2006.
Surviving family are three daughters, Julie Ann Deardorff of Dallastown, PA, Laura Sue Petersheim and husband Laverne of Greencastle, Lisa Jo Sankbeil and husband Edward of La Grange, GA, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one brother David G. Wilhide and wife Joyce of Ephrata, PA, two sisters-in-law, Sandra Wilhide of York, PA, Marion Wilhide of Michigan and numerous cousins.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son Thomas M. Lanehart on April 5, 2014.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24 at 10:30 AM from the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle, PA with Pastor Adam Meredith officiating. It was her request that there would not be a public viewing but the family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00- 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library 305 East Baltimore St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
