Robert L. "Red" Pensinger, age 74 of 323 Moss Spring Ave. Greencastle, Pa. died at 12:45 P.M. Saturday, June 16, 2007 in his home.

Born February 22, 1933 in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Arthur H. and Hazel K. (Statler) Pensinger.

Mr. Pensinger established his State Farm Insurance Agency in Greencastle in 1965 and it became the largest agency in the state of Pennsylvania and the fifth largest in the nation by the time he retired in 1997. He was a lifetime member of the State Farm President''s Club and was past president of the Pennsylvania State Farm Retired Agents Association. Red was a Legion of Honor agent six times and qualified for the Bronze Tablet in 1989.

Red served as the mayor of Greencastle from 2002 - 2006 and was vice chairman of the Board of Directors for Tower Bancorp Inc. and The First National Bank of Greencastle.

He has always been involved in community events as well as civic organizations. Red served as Scout Master for Troop 13 in Greencastle, was co-founder of the Brown''s Mill Ruritan Club (now known as Kauffman Ruritan Club), managed Kauffman''s Little League team for 10 years and was instrumental in developing the football program for the Greencastle-Antrim High School.

He was a member and former deacon of the Grace United Church Of Christ of Greencastle and was a director for the Greencastle-Antrim Foundation, an organization that helped establish the John L. Grove Medical Center in Greencastle. Red served as a director of the Allison-Antrim Museum in Greencastle. He has volunteered for the Franklin County Office Of The Aging by delivering meals to shut-ins, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Franklin County United Way.

Red was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber Of Commerce of which he received the 1997 James P. Oliver Award for his leadership skills and his community involvement. He was a director and Past President in 2001 of the Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week Association, a triennial celebration event held in Greencastle. He served as co-chairman of the Medic 2 Capital fund drive in order for the medic 2 unit to be readily available to the community.

In 1995 he received the Book Of Golden Deeds Award presented by the Greencastle Exchange Club. He was a 1951 graduate of the Greencastle High School.

He and his wife, Nancy M (Meyers) Pensinger were married August 9, 1953 in King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are:

One daughter, Robin P. Rock, of Greencastle and one son, R. Lynn Pensinger of Avon, Ohio.

Two Brothers, Tom Pensinger of Greencastle and Joseph Pensinger of Virginia.

One Sister, Doris Wells of Greencastle.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 - 9 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle.
