Robert L. Peiffer, age 88 a resident of Michaux Manor, Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, PA died at 10:45 AM on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Michaux Manor.

Born, July 31, 1923 in Quincy Twp., PA he was the son of the late George and Bertha (Shockey) Peiffer.

He and his wife, Frances E. (Swisher) Peiffer of Michaux Manor, Fayetteville, where married September 13, 1947 in Hagerstown, MD.

Mr. Peiffer retired after twelve years of employment in 1985 from the former Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove. Previously he worked at the former New York Central Iron Works in Hagerstown for 28 years and owned and operated Peiffer''s Grocery in Worleytown for five years.

He was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle and a Life Member of the Greencastle V.F.W. Robert was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Theater with the Cannon Company 124th Infantry Regiment 31st Infantry Division (Dixie Division). He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead. He loved gardening, raising livestock and was a lifetime fan of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are three sons, Steven L. (husband of Linda K.) Peiffer of Greencastle, Dean E. (husband of Beverly J.) Peiffer of Mercersburg and Curtis L. (husband of Karen K.) Peiffer of Greencastle; two brothers John Peiffer of Greencastle and Frank Peiffer of Sebring, FL; one sister, Grace Barnes of Williamson, PA; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Fred, Henry, Woodrow, Irvin, Ken and Ernest Peiffer and three sisters, Mary Myers, Daisy Shuman Myers and Margie Bailey.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19th at 10 A.M. from the Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle with Rev. Gayle Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle on Sunday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. where the Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 P.M.
