Robert E. "Bob" Horst Sr., age 84 of 50 South Linden Ave. Greencastle, Pa. died at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 29, 2008 in the Waynesboro Hospital.
Born August 29, 1923 in Chambersburg, Pa. he was the son of the late Daniel and Maggie (Shields) Horst.
He was employed by the former T.A. Zullinger Distributers of Chambersburg and last worked part time for Greencastle Beverage Distributor. In his earlier years he was an independent truck driver.
Mr. Horst was a member of the Greencastle Church Of The Brethren and was a life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle. He also was a social member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a member of the Chambersburg Moose Lodge.
He was a past president of the Greencastle Little League Association. He also served as a little league coach, umpire and game announcer.
Mr. Horst served in many positions over his forty year involvement in the Franklin County Little Leagues Tournament since its inception in 1961. He served as President from 1975-1983, 1996-97, as secretary from 1962 -1973 and he also served a stint as treasurer and on the board of directors.
Bob also announced games for the Greencastle Athletic baseball team and served as the first announcer for the Greencastle-Antrim High School football games.
He and his wife, Louise G. (Bricker) Horst were married February 25, 1945.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of 63 years are:
Two sons, Robert E. Horst Jr. of Sykesville, Md. and Gary L. Horst of Mont Alto, Pa.
One daughter, Robin L. Wagaman of Mt. Airy, Md.
Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
Two Step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by one grandson, five brothers and one sister.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, Pa. with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. There will be a visitation on Monday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa.
