Robert Irvin "Bob" Davis, age 79 of 421 West King St. Chambersburg, Pa. died at 11:56 P.M. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital following a brief illness.
Born March 7, 1931 in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Norman and Hazel (High) Davis.
Following graduation from Greencastle School District in 1949 he was employed for many years by Acme Markets and Hughes Superthrift, before working for Armco Steel. He became self-employed as a poultry farmer in Littlestown, PA., retiring in 2005 after 24 years.
While he enjoyed gardening and tinkering, his main love was spending time and making memories with his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He and his wife of 59 years, Frances (Stumbaugh) Davis were marred on June 24, 1951 at the Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle, where they have been lifelong members. Bob filled the position of church treasurer and served on the Board of Administration of the church for many years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four daughters Suzanne Hess and husband Carlton, Chambersburg, Deborah Davis, Chambersburg, Angela Yohe, Waynesboro, Cynthia King, Lancaster, Pa., five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters Janet King and Shirley Davis, both of Waynesboro, Jean Johnson, Greencastle, one brother Richard Davis, Waynesboro and number of cousins, nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Davis and a grandson Andrew Yohe.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday October 17 at 2:00 P.M. from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Pastor David G. Rawley officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Sunday.
