Richard T. Swope, age 87 a resident for the past several years of the Reeder''s Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md. and formerly of 316 N. Mulberry St. Hagerstown, Md. died at 9:25 A.M. Saturday February 2, 2008 in the nursing home.
Born May 17, 1920 in Chambersburg, Pa. he was the son of the late Herbert and Jennie (Cordell) Swope.
Mr. Swope retired from the Maugansville Lumber Co. and had also worked at the former Stickel & Sons Feed Mill.
He was a member of the State Line United Methodist Church where he had been a member of the adult Sunday School class. Mr. Swope was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling.
His wife, Ethel Louise (Smith) Swope died on August 22, 1995.
Surviving family are:
Two sons, Larry R. Swope of Smithsburg, Md. and Melvin L. Swope of Waynesboro, Pa.
Five sisters, Verna Brandenburg and Evelyn Downs, both of Hagerstown, Md., Betty Burger of Greencastle, Pa., Wilda Syan of Laurel, Md. and Catherine Wallace of Texas.
One brother, Bennett Swope of Ashley, Ohio.
Nine grandchildren and Nine Great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah J. Trumpower.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 6 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Pastor Dwaine Krebs officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
