Richard H. Mowen

Richard H. Mowen, age 76, of Chambersburg, PA, was at the Waynesboro Hospital when Jesus called him home on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Born January 29, 1945, in Mercersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Clyde J. and Julia I. Hawbaker Mowen.

Mr. Mowen was a 1962 graduate of James Buchanan High School. He worked as a farmer most of his life. Mr. Mowen was a member of the Greencastle Church of God, GWRRAA and the FFA. He enjoyed reading, so much that he worked to help others read by working for Lincoln Intermediate, square dancing and actively participated in Celebration Recovery.

Surviving are two children, Rebecca K. Furry (husband Jim) of Chambersburg, PA and Mark R. Mowen (wife Susan) of Clear Spring, MD; a granddaughter, Katelin Mowen; great-grandson, Ryder Mowen; and five siblings, Donna Buckwalter, David Mowen, Audrey Miller, Kenneth Mowen, and Frances Buckwalter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Mae Mowen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 11 AM at the Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Floyd Myers will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will follow the service in Myers Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA.
