Richard E. “Dick” Cline
Richard E. “Dick” Cline, age 85 of Lohman Ave. Greencastle, PA, went to be with the Lord at 1:45A.M. Monday, June 1, 2015 in the Hershey Medical Center. He had been in declining health the past three weeks.
Born April 11, 1930 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Ellsworth and Catherine (Spangler) Cline. He married June E. (Houser) Cline on March 20, 1965 in Biglerville, PA. She died on March 31, 2013. Dick served on Active Duty in the Air Force Strategic Air Command (Sac) from 1950-1953 and then the Air Force Reserve reaching the rank of Master Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge in April 1964.
Dick worked as an accountant and vice-president of the Mercersburg Builders Supply retiring in 2010 after 54 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle and served as the choir director and financial secretary. He graduated in 1948 from the former Greencastle High School on South Washington St. and he was a 1956 graduate of the Hagerstown Business College.
He enjoyed singing with the Mercersburg Community Chorus and Scuba Diving. He was a certified Dive instructor who taught at the YMCA and was called on by the Pennsylvania State Police for search and recovery operations.
Surviving family are two sons Steven E. Cline and wife Jenny of Fort Bragg, NC, David W. Cline and wife Deborah of Greencastle, one daughter Catherine E. Cline of Corvallis, MT, six grandsons and two step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5 at 4:00 P.M. from the Trinity Lutheran Church 1186 Jason Dr. Greencastle with Rev. William W. DeHass officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund 1186 Jason Dr. Greencastle, PA 17225.
