Rheta Shytle Warlick, aged 85, of Greencastle, PA , was welcomed home by the Lord on March 3, 2018. Rheta was born February 14, 1933 in Kings Mountain, NC, the daughter of John Walter and Mary Diana (Annie) O’Brien Gamble.
She married Charlie H. Shytle in 1953 and together they had four children. They were married for 50 years before his passing in 2003. Rheta later remarried John D. Warlick, also a native of Kings Mountain. They were married for 5 years before John’s passing in 2009.
Rheta received her LPN license from Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School in Charlotte NC. She worked in various capacities as a nurse, from Emergency room work to working at two nursing homes . In addition to raising her four children, she was involved in church ministry as a Sunday School teacher for many years and as a pastor’s wife. She was very talented at crafts and could make anything! She also loved playing her piano.
Rheta was preceded in death, by her parents, her two husbands, and her oldest sister, Mary Diana Gamble. Her survivors include two sisters, Betty Francis Spence, of Monroe, NC, and Nancy John Ware of Oak Island, NC ; her children, Deborah Shytle Poland (Mike), Michael Andrew Shytle (Bernice), Diana Elizabeth Pierce, William Charles Shytle (Debra) , step-daughters Robin Warlick Elder (David); J.J. Warlick Holshouser (Warren); 16 grandchildren, Sara Morter (Ross), Rachael Shytle, Ben Pierce (Ashley), Bailey Vinson, Taylor Vinson (Amy), Justin Shytle (Tammy), Fletcher Poland (Erica), Cody Dixon (Sara), Chris Shytle, Nick Shytle, Charlie Pierce, Kelly Elder, Ryan Elder, Emily Elder, Katie Holshouser, Sarah Holshouser and 11 great grandchildren, Elijah, Noah, Mason, Haylee, Kate, Amelia, Rowe, Anna, Abby, Asher, and one on the way!
You may visit the family on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain NC. Funeral services conducted by John Spence, nephew of Mrs. Warlick, will begin at 3:30 in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetary. Local arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home in Greencastle.
