Rev. Lorne George Lichty, 87, of Greencastle, died Sunday morning, January 13, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn R. Dohner Lichty, his wife of 9 years.
Born June 3, 1925, near Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, he was a son of the late Solomon and Emma Jantzi Lichti.
Rev. Lichty graduated from Toronto Bible College, and was ordained to the ministry in 1955. He was a bivocational pastor serving in the Brethren In Christ Church and as a licensed auctioneer for 55 years.
Not only did he pastor locally at Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church, Mercersburg; but over his career at Belleville, Green Springs, and Clear Creek Brethren In Christ Churches, and Bedford Chapel, all of Pennsylvania; as well as his first pastorate at North Star Mission and two additional churches in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Besides his wife, Rev. Lichty is survived by four children, Gloria Barbara Ann deHaan and husband Adrian of Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada, Charlotte Lucille Reid and husband Rev. Kenneth Reid of Orrtanna, Marlene Yvonne Wenger and husband Larson of Greencastle, and Rev. L. Douglas Lichty and wife Kathy of St. Thomas; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a step great grandchild; as well as a brother, Lloyd Lichti and wife Mary Lou of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-six years, Jeanne E. Snyder Lichty, who died in 2003; and four brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, Thursday, January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18 at 11:00 A.M. from his church, Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Waynesboro with Rev. William A. "Bill" Shank will officiating. Interment will be in Brown''s Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rev. Lichty''s name to Brethren in Christ World Missions, 431 Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17055.
