Raymond J. Garling Sr., age 92 of 41 Stone Ledge Rd. Newville, Pa. and formerly a resident of North Allison St. Greencastle and Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg died at 5:28 P.M. Thursday May 20, 2010 in the Shippensburg Health Center Shippensburg, Pa.

Born August 23, 1917 in Greencastle, Pa. he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Brubaker) Garling.
In his early life he was a farmer. Raymond then worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker for Sam Horst Cabinetry and Foremost Industries Inc.

He was a member of the Carlisle Brethren In Christ Church and had also attended and was a deacon at Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church near Mercersburg. Raymond enjoyed reading, refinishing furniture and doing needlepoint.

He and his wife Catherine M. (Hoover) Garling were married September 2, 1938 in Frederick, Md. She died on May 22, 2001

Surviving family are two sons Raymond J. Garling Jr. and wife Sallie of Newville, Pa., Ronald L. Garling and wife Carol of Chambersburg, Pa., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one foster grandson and two foster great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 25 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. Jerry Clonch officiating. Burial will be in the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church Cemetery near Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Carlisle Brethren In Christ Church, 1155 Walnut Bottom Rd. Carlisle, Pa. 17015. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com
